Nurse Educator Certificate

Description
The Nurse Educator (NED) Post-Baccalaureate Graduate Certificate prepares BSN nurses at the certificate level in nursing education within the academic and clinical arenas. The certificate is built upon the art and science of nursing education within the changing contexts of health care, nursing, higher education, and evidence-based practice. The certificate provides students with a basic understanding and evidence-based application of the nurse educator role. Credits earned can be applied toward the Masters of Science with Major in Nursing, NED Emphasis for students who would like to earn a graduate degree.

Admission Requirements

  • BS or BA in nursing from an NLN or CCNE accredited university
  • Documentation of current unencumbered registered nurse (RN) license in the US
  • Total cumulative local GPA (not including transfer credits) of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in undergraduate courses at the last institution where nursing degree awarded
  • Complete “Application for Admission to Graduate Study” form
    • International Students
      • You must complete the International Student Application packet where in you indicate if you are a US citizen
      • You must contact the International Student Office at 218-477-2956
      • You must hold a current Work Visa (not Student Visa) that will be valid throughout the course of study in the graduate program
  • Completed “Nursing Application” form including:
    • 500 word essay describing professional experience and future professional goals
    • Three letters of recommendation (two from professional colleagues, 1 from personal; see provided nursing forms)
  • Non-refundable $20.00 fee for first-time applicants to Minnesota State University Moorhead
  • Official transcripts from ALL colleges and universities attended
  • Non-Minnesota applicants are not fully admitted until the Department of Higher Education in the applicant's state of residence has approved distance education/online programs from the state of Minnesota

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the Nurse Educator Certificate, graduates are expected to:

NEC1. Incorporate theoretical contributions and scientific knowledge of the discipline into nursing practice and education.

NEC2. Collaborate in scholarly activities of inquiry related to nursing practice and education.

NEC3. Develop, implement, and modify programs or plans of care for diverse client populations.

NEC4. Demonstrate competency in the specialized role of nurse educator within the context of independent and collaborative nursing practice.
