Description |
Literature for Young Readers is a concentrated reading course designed to impart the knowledge necessary for an appreciation and understanding of children's literature, its historical development, major genres in the field, contemporary issues and debates about children and literature written for them, and the literary terms relevant to the study of literature written for children. In addition to reading classics and the critically acclaimed works of both fiction and nonfiction by modern writers, students will study poetry, folklore, mythology, and examine the relationship between illustration and text (picture books and graphic novels).
