Description This course addresses the challenges and complexities of palliative and hospice care based on the End of Life Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC) curriculum. Course modules focus on end-of-life issues such as evidence-based assessment and management of pain and other symptoms, communication, ethics, cultural/spiritual aspects, loss/grief/bereavement, and the final hours. A multidisciplinary approach to palliative care addresses patient- and family-centered care with attention on the physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and emotional needs of terminally ill patients and their family members. Students who successfully complete this course are “ELNEC-trained”.
