B.S. Degree in Mathematics Education

Description
The B.S. Degree in Mathematics Education will prepare students for a career as a secondary education teacher in Mathematics. The program includes 46 credits in Mathematics, starting with the Calculus sequence. These courses include ones that are core to any Mathematics major as well as ones that are specific to Mathematics Education. Additionally, 36 credits of courses that are core to any Secondary Education major are required. Every Mathematics major at Minnesota State University Moorhead requires a sequence of upper level courses. In the case of the Mathematics Education major, that sequence is Math 416 and the capstone experience of student teaching. To receive the B.S. Degree in Mathematics Education, the student must meet the minimum university requirements and specific requirements for the program. Completion of 120 credits and a 2.5 GPA or higher is required to graduate with this degree which includes the Liberal Arts and Sciences Core (42 credits) and Secondary Teaching Licensure Education requirements (36 credits). Teacher licensure requirements must be met in order to receive a secondary teaching license in the state of Minnesota.

Program Requirements

Restricted Electives ( 3 credits )

Students must take three elective credits in mathematics. These electives must be at the 300 level or higher and may not include Math 302, 303, 304, or 406.
